Teeth whitening is an important part of getting that Hollywood smile – you know, the one that makes your friends try to tell you jokes just so you will crack it open and flash your pearly whites. And for those of you who are willing to do what it takes to get that white and shining smile, you have a lot of different options to choose from. Some teeth whitening options are fast, some are slow; some are highly effective, while others just never seemed to do the job.

  Teeth Whitening Charlotte

The tooth whitening secret of Hollywood stars

If you are looking for teeth whitening solutions, you have probably heard of the many at home tooth whitening systems available from your local drugstore and pharmacy. But do you think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie go to the drugstore for their teeth whitening? Most likely these high-profile movie stars, and the rest of us who want the fastest way to whiter teeth, will go to a cosmetic dentist for tooth whitening procedures. That is because over-the-counter methods, although highly effective in their own way, take an incredible amount of time before you see any results. Most people using at home teeth whitening systems have to wait around with tooth whitening trays and messy gels inside their mouths for up to 30 minutes every day – sometimes for as long as a month before they start seeing any results.

How can I get teeth whitening faster and more effectively in Charlotte NC?

Fortunately, teeth whitening procedures are some of the fastest, easiest, and most affordable solutions provided by your local cosmetic dentists. In fact, one local Charlotte NC cosmetic dentistry office, the Ballantyne Center for Dentistry, offers an extremely effective tooth whitening solution, which is commonly referred to as laser teeth whitening. In fact, through the high tech use of LED lighting, you will be amazed by how white your teeth can get in just a few minutes.

Is it gentle and safe?

Do not let the name frighten you. Laser teeth whitening does not actually involve any laser beams inside your mouth. When you show up to the Ballantyne Center for Dentistry for a laser teeth whitening treatment, your cosmetic dentist will paint a special kind of whitening gel on top of your teeth. This gel contains a small amount of the active ingredient hydrogen peroxide, which is the whitening agent that will safely and gently brighten your teeth on its own.

However, with laser teeth whitening, your cosmetic dentist will also illuminate your teeth, not with a laser, but with blue LED lighting. This light has the effect of amplifying the speed and whitening power of the hydrogen peroxide gel exponentially. Best of all, your LED lighting treatment will be over in just 15 to 20 minutes. You are then free to resume your normal eating and smiling habits – but this time your smile will be many shades lighter and many shades more beautiful.

When it comes to teeth whitening, trust the experts

White and bright smile seekers living in Charlotte NC can achieve their tooth whitening goals at the Ballantyne Center for Dentistry, Charlotte cosmetic dentists. Best of all, you do not have to wait for the results, because with laser teeth whitening that employs LED lighting you can get a bright and shining smile in just 15 to 20 minutes.

Laser teeth whitening is all the rage these days. Teeth whitening does not happen by itself. If the truth be told, teeth are naturally a little bit dingy, and they get more so as we age. Every day, over and over again, we drink coffee and tea. Some of us smoke cigarettes, and others even chew tobacco. Or we drink dark colas and other colored soft drinks. And what about those blue candies that make your entire mouth turn blue? If you take a moment to think about it, you will quickly understand why your pearly whites are not so brilliant anymore.

Fortunately, there is a solution to the problem of dingy teeth and it is called laser teeth whitening. Laser teeth whitening is a high tech procedure that is different from what you will find at the typical dentistry office. Indeed, it is usually offered by cosmetic dentists, and not even all cosmetic dentists have jumped on the bandwagon to provide this amazing innovative procedure.

How is laser teeth whitening different?

Probably the best thing about laser teeth whitening is the laser-lightning speed at which it works. Normal tooth whitening procedures, which are also highly effective, have the drawback of taking a very long time. Over-the counter solutions can require as much as a month or several weeks of administering gels and waiting with gel-filled trays inside your mouth. For that reason, a lot of people are turning to laser teeth whitening, which can revitalize your smile in 15 to 20 minutes.

Laser tooth whitening is usually completed in one visit to your cosmetic dentist. It may sound like it is too good to be true that patients can achieve a whiter brighter smile in minutes like this, but truly laser teeth whitening is just one of the many miracles of modern cosmetic dentistry.

Laser beams? Are you serious?

Many patients may be relieved to find out that their dentist will not be aiming a gigantic laser beam at their face. Actually, the secret of laser teeth whitening is the fact that it uses blue LED lighting to activate a special hydrogen peroxide gel that is applied to your teeth, and not a  real laser. The gel activated by the light is the same kind of gel that is used in other tooth whitening procedures. Therefore, the blue LED lighting is the most unique part about laser teeth whitening that sets it apart from other more commonly found methods.

Laser teeth whitening has become the latest option for Americans looking for teeth whitening or bleaching. In fact, teeth whitening is probably the most common reason for a Charlotte resident to visit a cosmetic dentist. To cater to this demand for whiter smiles, trustworthy dentists already offer traditional solutions, such as home bleaching. However, some people find this bleaching to be messy and expensive.

The latest laser teeth whitening systems actually use LED lighting. This has brought down the cost for basic teeth whitening, making it a great option for touch-ups and regular maintenance. A reliable dentist with LED laser tooth whitening equipment like those at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry can remove stains and whiten your smile in a session that is approximately 20-30 minutes. Unlike other teeth whitening methods, this is quick and effective, especially if you find a reliable dentist who has hands-on experience with laser tooth whitening. Dr. Christian Yaste and Dr. Joe Hufanda, Charlotte's cosmetic dentists, specialize in LED laser tooth whitening treatment.

How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth whitening products all contain some amount of the chemical peroxide, in the form of carbamide peroxide (CP) or hydrogen peroxide (HP).  This chemical reacts with all the organic material sitting on top of the tooth enamel. Peroxide is well-known for its ability to bleach even stubborn stains caused by coffee, smoking, red wine, or food.  Of course, different types of teeth whitening products contain different levels of CP or HP.

How effective are OTC products?

In general, over-the-counter products contain the least amount of peroxide. This is why a typical OTC product needs to be used for weeks or even months before visible results. The other problem with trying tooth whitening at home is the risk of damage to the tooth enamel. Overuse or incorrect treatment can weaken the tooth enamel, causing sensitivity and pain. If required, a trusted dentist can provide suggestions on which OTC products would be best for your own needs. In some cases, cosmetic dentists will advise products meant to maintain the results of a tooth whitening procedure.

What is the procedure for laser teeth whitening?

With a trustworthy Charlotte cosmetic dentist like Dr. Yaste or Dr. Hufanda operating the LED laser tooth whitening system, the procedure is effortless. The first step is to apply a product to the teeth, most likely a gel. This contains a unique type of peroxide that reacts with light from a limited wavelength. When the LED lighting is switched on, the peroxide is activated and goes to work on all the dark organic stains.  A typical laser teeth whitening procedure lasts only 20-30 minutes. It is very effective at removing mild discoloration, making it a sensible option for first time tooth whitening.

How can you maintain your new smile?

Your Charlotte cosmetic dentist should provide some home care tips to help you maintain your brilliant new smile. In most cases, a simple diet change may be required to avoid the main causes of tooth discoloration.  The best dentists also provide patients with products that help keep the newly whitened teeth in good condition.  You can contact Ballantyne Center for Dentistry, Charlotte's cosmetic dentists, to find out how a simple laser teeth whitening procedure can brighten up your smile and confidence.

As we get older, the teeth become darker and there are changes within their structure. Teeth may also become stained due to food, bacteria and tobacco. Having stained or discolored teeth makes us look and feel older, giving us less confidence.

In-Office Professional teeth whitening (often referred to as “Laser” teeth whitening) can solve all that in a matter of hours. You can immediately go back to your daily schedule, as it does not cause sensitivity afterwards.  Although an actual Laser is not used to whiten the teeth the phrase laser teeth whitening has become quite popular.  In reality a LED light or a Halogen light is the actual catalyst for the whitening gel.  The light speeds up the whitening process.

Benefits of professional teeth whitening versus over the counter whitening products

Over the counter whitening products such as gel, pastes, creams or strips are affordable and easy to buy. However, you run the risk of getting a product that has not been monitored and does not guarantee results. And worse, you may wind up using a product that may cause permanent damage to your teeth, with the end result of paying more to fix the damage.

By far, going to the dentist to have teeth whitening is still the safest. Here at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry your cosmetic dentist can check your teeth to see if you’ll get the desired results and not just waste your money.

We can also make sure that you will be able to maintain the color of your teeth after the procedure. No need for repeated applications and numerous trips to the store to buy whitening products.

There are a couple of common misperceptions about teeth whitening at the dentist’s office.  One of these common misperceptions is to call teeth whitening “Laser teeth whitening.”  Laser dentistry is a hot word, it’s become a popular term and many people have heard about it and want their teeth whitened with “Laser Dentistry.”  But- technology has changed and improved over the last couple of years. There are many new and different spectrums of light used for teeth whitening, including halogen and LED. You may have seen advertisements about flashlights that are LED and how bright and effective they are.

The old lasers caused some sensitivity - these newer lights are cooler, and friendlier to teeth and gums.  They work, gently, to activate the whitening agents for tooth whitening.

The most common type of teeth whitening now is LED teeth whitening.  Some people still call it Laser teeth whitening, but really the correct term would be LED teeth whitening.  LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It’s a digital light, and faster and easier than the “laser” used in years past.  LED lighting is very comfortable against the skin, and does not cause any damage to the gums or teeth.

A second misperception is that it only takes one time to get your teeth to stay white.  Teeth whitening is a continual process- just like:

·         Cleaning your teeth everyday: If you only brushed your teeth once, and then threw away your tooth brush- your teeth and mouth would become very unpleasant soon!

·         Exercising:  If you only exercised once, and then didn’t keep exercising on a regular basis, you would not be healthy.

·         Suntan:  If you are one of those who try to get a suntan, you know that you can’t lie out in the sun once, and expect to keep tanned skin for a lifetime!

·         Hair Coloring:  Those who color their hair know that it’s time for some maintenance when the roots start showing up a different color

·         Retainer after braces:  If you don’t wear a retainer regularly, after your braces are off, your teeth will return to its natural position.

All of these examples are just like teeth whitening- you need a maintenance plan to keep your teeth white.  Teeth whitening is not a one-time event, but needs a plan of action to keep your teeth bright and white.  It may only take one visit to get your teeth to that new sparkling white, but the maintenance plan is necessary to keep them that way.  It’s helpful to talk to your local cosmetic dentist about a maintenance plan. He will also discuss your use of tobacco products, red wine, tea, coffee or other teeth staining products, to help you create the best plan of action for you.  And don’t worry.  Keeping your teeth white isn’t hard.  There are many different products from the dentist and over the counter that do a wonderful job of maintaining the initial investment of Professional Teeth Whitening.

Come visit us at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry and we can discuss with you the options for whitening your teeth. We look forward to seeing you.
