Tooth bonding is a procedure where your local Charlotte NC cosmetic dentists at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry apply composite resin material on teeth either to restore the structure and strength or to improve the cosmetic quality of the teeth. This is a relatively simple dental procedure where patients wanting to have their beautiful smile restored can be satisfied in one dental appointment.

Why would I want dental bonding?

Patients may need dental bonding if they have decayed, cracked, stained, discolored or broken teeth. Sometimes, patients may want to have their teeth look longer than their usual length. Tooth bonding  is one way to achieve this effect.

Other reasons for using cosmetic tooth bonding may be an unpleasant teeth shape and contour, or closing gatps between the teeth.  Dental bonding is also a viable solution in repairing teeth instead of silver mercury fillings.

Laying out the pros and cons of tooth bonding

Charlotte NC cosmetic dentists, here at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry, can complete tooth bonding in just one appointment, and the process takes about 30 minutes or less. Dental bonding is one of the easiest restorative procedures for an experience cosmetic dentist.

In terms of cost, tooth bonding is friendly with every patient’s pocket.  It’s always important to check with your dental insurance, so that you understand what is covered in your insurance.  This particular dental procedure does not require second visits or sending information to dental labs.

Sedation is not usually necessary for the tooth bonding procedure, and is a relatively easy procedure for most patients.  Only a small portion of the tooth is drilled and prepared. However, some patients may still experience sensitivity. Some patients may have dental fear or anxiety.  To save the patient from anxiety, sedation dentistry may be offered with tooth bonding.

Bonding to the tooth does not last forever.  Over time, this restorative material may stain as it absorbs fluid from the oral cavity. Tea, coffee and cigarettes highly induce staining on composite resin materials. Patients may be prone to have these restorations replaced when this happens. As a precaution, your cosmetic dentists at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry recommend brushing as soon as possible after drinking coffee or other liquids and food that can stain.

Just like any restoration and appliances in the mouth, patients need to take care of their teeth and follow their Charlotte cosmetic dentist’s instructions.  Too much biting pressure should be avoided as it may cause untimely fracturing of the restoration. Abrasive toothpastes are also not welcome as maintenance pastes for tooth bonding. Abrasives may take out the luster and shine in the tooth bonding. This may make the restoration susceptible to stains afterwards.

Dental Bonding 101

Posted on August 12, 2011 by backoffice
Do you know anyone who has perfect teeth? If you do, that person must be truly unusual, as almost no one is born with a perfect set of teeth. Most people have some issues with their teeth, whether its gaps in the teeth, unaligned teeth or decay. Fret no more! There are many ways to repair a tooth or several teeth. Dr. Christian Yaste and Dr. Joe Hufanda at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry are equipped with many ideas to help you with your imperfect teeth. Dental or tooth bonding is one of the very helpful alternatives in cosmetic dentistry today.

Tooth bonding uses a composite resin to correct problems in your teeth. Like making a sculpture out of clay, the resin is used to restore chipped or broken teeth, fill in gaps, reshape, and recolor your teeth. It is like an art, with the artisan in the form of Dr. Christian Yaste and Dr. Joe Hufanda, using modern dental technology.

It is among the easiest and cost effective cosmetic dental procedures. Unlike veneers, which need to be customized to achieve proper fit, bonding can be done in a single visit here at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry. Due to the cost and short time needed, many choose dental bonding as a convenient, fast and affordable solution to their teeth issues.

What happens during the bonding process?

A composite resin filling is placed in the back and front of the teeth. This filling will correct teeth imperfections such as stains, small gaps and crooked teeth. Dental bonding covers the tooth with a plastic material, and then bonds it to the existing tooth. After the material is bonded, your trusted Charlotte cosmetic dentists, Dr. Christian Yaste and Dr. Joe Hufanda, will sculpt color and shape your teeth to make it beautiful and pleasing. A high intensity light then hardens the resin, and then it is polished to perfection.

The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes per tooth. Anesthesia is often not necessary unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth. If anesthesia is needed, it’s generally not uncomfortable. But, if you are a dental phobic, it’s important to consider sedation dentistry which is offered by Ballantyne Center for Dentistry.

Who needs this procedure?

Say goodbye to ugly teeth and improve your smile with tooth bonding. Here are the most common teeth imperfections that this procedure can handle:
o  repair decayed teeth
o  mask chipped or cracked teeth
o  restore broken tooth parts
o  improve the appearance of discolored teeth by making them lighter and brighter
o  closes minor tooth gaps
o  make teeth look longer
o  change the shape of the teeth
o  as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings

Why dental bonding is a good choice

Dental bonding is preferred by many because it is less expensive, faster and less complicated than other procedures. No anesthesia is needed and the process can be done in one single visit depending on your teeth. It is definitely ideal for small cosmetic changes and temporary corrections. Composites are the solution needed for restoring decayed teeth, making cosmetic improvements and even changing the color of your teeth.

Taking care of bonded teeth

It’s important to take care of your bonded teeth, once the procedure is finished. Your teeth bonding will last longer if you take care of your teeth with proper oral hygiene.

·     Always brush your teeth in the morning and evening
·     Try not to bite your fingernails and other solid objects.
·     Refrain from using abrasive toothpastes that could diminish the shine on your bonded tooth’s surface making it prone to stains.
·     Avoid substances like tea, coffee and cigarette smoke as these can stain the resin, or brush immediately after using them.

Restoring smiles with dental bonding

Bring back that beautiful smile and restore that much-needed confidence with dental bonding. Face the world bravely with a smile. Life is short to worry about things that can be fixed. If you can do something about it, why wait? Start now by calling your dedicated and trusted Charlotte cosmetic dentists, Dr. Christian Yaste and Dr. Joe Hufanda at Ballantyne Center for Dentistry. Smile Makeover

Posted on May 11, 2010 by Dr. Yaste

Well, what do you think? This lovely lady from Charlotte, NC, had an obviously less than attractive smile. Patched up, and then patched up again, and again, and again. Her “patched up” dentistry was not done by bad dentists. In fact it takes some real skill to keep composite bonding or patching stuck together like that for any length of time. The real problem is that it looks bad, and was embarrassing to her. It was such a pleasure, and so much fun, to finally help her get her teeth fixed with six cosmetic porcelain dental veneers and professional teeth whitening. Look at how much prettier she looks after her teeth were finally fixed. A beautiful lady that now has a beautiful smile!
